Award-winning French string quartet Quatuor Voce will perform at The Chapter House, St Mary’s Cathedral, on Sunday at 4pm.
Their effortlessly sophisticated artistry will come to bear on a wonderful acoustic space in a programme featuring music by Bartók, Schubert, Beethoven and Irish composer, Rhona Clarke.
Champions of the great repertoire for string quartet, and widely celebrated for their performances of contemporary music, Quatuor Voce have been acknowledged as being amongst the best ensembles in the world, according to Susan Proud, the administrator of Music in Kilkenny.
Rhona Clarke’s Edge, String Quartet No. 3, commissioned by Music Network especially for this tour will be performed at the concert.
“I was delighted to get the commission from Music Network and with the opportunity to write for this vibrant and superb group,” said Rhona.
“So far I have only heard the Quatuor Voce through recordings and I am very much looking forward to hearing them live and especially performing the new piece.
“It is a pretty tense work called Edge, something which will contrast very much with the Schubert and Beethoven,” she added.
This new composition continues Music Network’s work of actively commissioning and touring new works by Irish composers, as well as programming existing contemporary Irish music within relevant concert programmes.
