The Mayor of Kilkenny, Cllr Michael Doyle from Inistioge will officially start this year’s Wellie Race in Castlecomer on New Year’s Day.
Michael will be returning to the birth place of his mother, Kathleen Doyle (Nee Cody) who hails from Skehana just outside the town as does his two uncles Tom and Christy who are synonymous with Wellie Race day. Kathleen won the Ladies Race on two occasions.
Preparations are underway with sponsorship cards available. It’s time to plan your participation in the individual float and fancy dress parade or in the group float. Castlecomer is the place to be on January 1, 2018.
