Status Orange weather warning for Kilkenny as heavy snow on the way

Temperatures are plummeting

A Status Orange weather warning has been issued for Kilkenny from 11pm tonight to 11pm Sunday, December 10.

Significant snow fall is predicted. Extreme cold weather is likely to persist into early days of next week.

Kilkenny County Council has said that all road users and pedestrians are advised to exercise extreme caution as slippery paths and treacherous road conditions are expected. Motorists should drive in a manner appropriate to the prevailing conditions.

Temperatures as low as minus 4 or 5 degrees are expected in some areas on Sunday night going into Monday morning.

Accumulations of 4 to 8 cm of snow could occur quite widely with greater totals possible. Do not assume a route has been treated, and proceed with caution.

Drifting snow locally at times too with brisk winds. Slippery paths and treacherous roads also due to snow accumulation and ice.
