Festive carol service at St Mary's Cathedral, Kilkenny on Sunday

The ever-popular carol service will take place in St Mary’s Cathedral next Sunday.
This year, as usual, the combined choirs of St Mary’s Cathedral and The Unity Singers will lead the congregation in a programme of favourite traditional carols interspersed with some more modern ones. They will be joined again by Kilkenny-born soprano, Tanya Sewell and for the first time ever, Kilkenny Youth Orchestra.
The carol service has consistently attracted large crowds since it’s inception over 25 years ago as it is generally felt by the audience that the service helps to set the mood for the forthcoming Christmas festivities. The congregation will be encouraged to participate in singing with the choirs and orchestra for some of the more well known carols which should add to a pleasant and enjoyable evening.
A collection will be made during the evening for the restoration fund of St Mary’s Cathedral. The work on the Chapter House of the Cathedral has been completed with the conversion of this old meeting house into a centre of parish activities. A coffee shop and book shop are now open at the Chapter House as well. Ongoing renovation to the cathedral are continuing with the roof and the interior of the sanctuary completed. The wall mosaics and floor have been completely restored and lighting has been added. All the Stations of the Cross have also been restored to their original appearance.
