It is likely that some form of pedestrian restrictions will remain in place on the Butterslip, For the businesses on the Butterslip it is business as usual
Ongoing works on the Butterslip in Kilkenny City are emergency works arising from a combination of a sewer blockage and a collapsed sewer, Kilkenny County Council has said.
The repairs saw the Butterslip closed off in terms of a through-route between Kieran Street and High Street last week, but businesses on the busy city centre slip remain open as usual.
There is a very old sewer (old stone culvert) under the bottom half of the Butterslip and, having cleared the sewer blockage efforts are now concentrated on replacing the sewer. Archaeological advice has been sought and provided in respect of the works and full and appropriate reinstatement of the area will be undertaken as the works conclude.
It is likely that some form of pedestrian restrictions will remain in place on the Butterslip over the coming days, but in the second part of this week, it may be possible to provide for a direct access between High Street and Kieran Street along the slip.
