Gardaí in Kilkenny are investigating the circumstances surrounding a violent assault in the city centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The victim contacted gardaí and reported that he had been violently set upon by two men in an unprovoked attack on Ormonde Street. One assailant delivered a punch causing facial injuries which required a number of stitches while the second man smashed a glass off the side of the injured party's head. The victim attended St Luke's Hospital where he received medical attention for his injuries.
Gardaí are investigating the report and are examining CCTV footage from the area. Anyone with information is asked to contact Kilkenny gardaí on (056) 777 5000.
