Actress wore football socks to counter cold weather while filming in Kilkenny

Interview on the front page from March 8, 1968 was with Susannah Yorke, who was starring in ‘Lock up your Daughters’ a film set in Kilkenny and in particular around Rothe House. She was enjoying her time here, but revealed that she wore football socks as extra clothing to tackle the harsh March winds.
President of the Chamber Mr Philip Purcell called on the government to consider Kilkenny for any future plans of decentralisation.
A shop in Callan was raided, and up to £200 was stolen as well as some silver.
Kilkenny Corporation were in the process of raising £345,000 worth of a loan to build 113 houses in the city.
The lead story referred to an increase in rates and quoted Alderman Kieran Crotty calling on the government to intervene in the health budget deficit which was now at £121,000.
