Inspirational young Kilkenny man elected president of University College Cork's Student Union

An inspirational, young Kilkenny man has been elected president of the Student's Union in University College Cork. City native, Alan Hayes will shortly take up his full time role at the college.

He made national headlines in 2014 after singing his own song, Survivor on the Late Late Show which he later recorded.

He dedicated it to his mother, Angela after the family had been severely impacted by suicide.

As a result, Angela with Alan''s help and that of many concerned Kilkenny People set up Teach Tom,a free, suicide intervention and family support service in the city which has been a great success.
