Kilkenny Lions Club last week elected Philip Tierney as their new President for 2018/19.
This year is very important for Kilkenny Lions Club, as this charitable organisation is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
At the annual meeting, the outgoing President Brian O’Callaghan handed over the chain of office to Philip and wished him every success as President .
Philip is originally from Thurles and has lived and worked in Kilkenny, with his wife Maria and family, for the past 32 years.
In 1991, Philip joined the club and has served in various positions, including President in 1995.
For his year in office Philip with the help of all the committee members and the generous support of the people of Kilkenny including the business sector, intends to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors in providing support and help for those in our City and County requiring assistance. He thanked the Kilkenny People and KCLR for giving such great publicity to the various Lions fundraising events.
The past year has been very successful with fundraising events including the Christmas Hamper Appeal, Schools Concert, Wine Fair, Golf Classic, Street Collection, Carol Singing and the recent free Diabetes Screening.
The funds raised have allowed Kilkenny Lions to provide valuable assistance to St. Vincent De Paul; Kilkenny Women’s Refuge Centre; Kilkenny Homecare; Good Shepherd Centre Meals on Wheels and to 15 other local voluntary organisations in the City and County. Philip is also anxious to extend membership of the Club in order to cater for the expanding number of Lions activities and looks forward to another very successful year for Kilkenny Lions Club.
