Planning permission for the new mosque in Kilkenny city has been welcomed by the Green Party.
Cllr Malcolm Noonan who is the party's Local Government and Community spokesperson said that the planning section of Kilkenny County Council had given due consideration to all matters relating to the application and it's potential impact on the receiving environment and was satisfied that the Mosque will not adversely affect quality of life or residential amenity within the area.
'Matters unrelated to the planning process have been stressful and hurtful for our local Islamic community but I'm hopeful now that is all in the past. This development will benefit the whole community, representing a 3 million euro construction investment in the local economy as well as the ancillary benefits to local business and it is reflective of a modern Kilkenny, inclusive, welcoming and diverse' he said.
