Man with knife barricades himself inside house for two hours in Kilkenny City

The Regional Armed Response Unit were called to a two-hour stand off in a housing estate in Kilkenny city in the early hours of Saturday morning after a man allegedly barricaded himself the premises and threatened gardaí.

The alleged incident took place at Bishop Birch Place at approximately 2am on Saturday morning when the suspect allegedly barricaded himself into the house with a knife. It is alleged that he threatened officers with a knife and then threw concrete and statues in the direction of gardaí damaging a patrol van.

The suspect was arrested and has appeared before a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court where he was charged with criminal damage. He was released on bail to appear before Kilkenny District Court on November 6.
