His Rev, Dr Laurence Forristal, retired Bishop of Ossory who passed away today
One of Kilkenny's best loved clerics has passed away at 87-years of age. Bishop Laurence Forristal, Bishop Emeritus of Ossory, w died peacefully in St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny, this morning.
Bishop Dermot Farrell, the current Bishop of Ossory said: “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of Bishop Laurence Forristal, Bishop Emeritus of Ossory, who died peacefully in Saint Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny, this morning.
From Jerpoint, Thomastown, Bishop Forristal was born in 1931 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1955. The late bishop was appointed as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Dublin in 1980 and was subsequently installed as Bishop of Ossory in 1981, where he served until 2007.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
