Callan goes to the 'Oskars'

As John Locke’s GAA Club gears up for its biggest fundraiser of the year a number of associated events are taking place across the town.

Callan Goes to the Oskars will be staged at The Hub at Cillin Hill on October 28. As part of the build-up, there are a range of activities being organised by the casts and crews of the seven films which are currently being shot at locations across Kilkenny.

Each of these will be screened on the big night, with a panel of judges deciding on winning options in a variety of categories. Attendees are encouraged to dress as for a gala awards ceremony and to be ready for a night of great fun.

All proceeds go to the GAA club. So, you can show your support by attending the main session or by turning up at any (or all!) of the supporting functions.

There are many such listings to choose from too. On Friday a Gin Tasting Evening will unfold at Keogh’s Bar in the town. Start time is 9pm and there’s a €10 cover charge.

On Saturday, a Last Man Standing competition takes place as part of the fundraising efforts of the Forrest Gump cast and crew.
The same evening there’s an American Tea Party from 7pm at the clubhouse.

Organised by the team with The Snapper movie, hosts are Claire Henriques and Dav McCormack. Tables of eight to ten people are lining up to take part at a cost of €10 per person.

Table quiz
Then on Saturday night you can test the grey matter with a table quiz at The Big Wheel. Tables of four cost €20 while there’ll also be a raffle.

Wherever you end up, enjoy. And know that all monies raised will help with the club which is growing bigger by the year, currently boasting over 400 juveile members alone.
