The burnt out shell of the Bridge House, John Street, Kilkenny
The Bridge House at John’s Bridge in the centre of the city has been handed back to its owners, the Neville Hotel Group after Kilkenny County Council secured the building under special powers following the devastating fire there on Wednesday, October 17.
An order has been placed on hoarding surrounding the much loved building, requiring the owners to put a protective, temporary roof on the building as a matter of urgency.
This is to protect what is left of the interior including the staccato ceilings and the medieval fabric at the rear of the building.
Senior City Engineer, Simon Walton is concerned for the safety of the structure with winter weather on the horizon, particularly rain and frost.
