Sorting of votes at the count centre for the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency at Cillin Hill, Kilkenny
The sorting of votes in the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency for the presidential election has begun in the count centre at Cillin Hill, Kilkenny.
With many of the Carlow boxes opened, Michael D Higgins has taken a commanding lead with Peter Casey doing even better than predicted in the polls.
He is getting a lot of Michael D's number twos and vica versa.
At this stage the result is a foregone conclusion with the only issue to be decided whether or not there will be a second count needed to elect Michael D.
The turnout is expected to be less than 40%.
