'Vinyl Renaissance' sees Golden Discs set to open new Kilkenny store

New music shop will open in Market Cross this weekend

VINYL RENAISSANCE

Golden Discs: 'Vinyl sales represent a core part of Golden Discs’ business and are up 60% year to date'

The renaissance of vinyl has led to music shop Golden Discs preparing to open a brand new store in Kilkenny City this weekend.

The shop will open on Saturday, November 10 in Market Cross Shopping Centre. It will be one of three new Golden Discs to open this month, with others in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre and Limerick. The three stores add a further 30 employees to the Golden Discs brand.

Golden Discs CEO Stephen Fitzgerald says that sales growth has in no small part been driven by the 'Vinyl Renaissance'. Vinyl sales represent a core part of Golden Discs’ business and are up 60% year to date.

“The Vinyl renaissance shows no sign of abating," said Mr Fitzgerald.

"The major labels are reissuing catalogue albums every week as well as all the new releases. What started as a niche format for hardcore music fans is more and more becoming mainstream as music lovers use streaming services for convenience and purchase physical product for tangibility. Ownership is a growing trend and we intend to open more new stores to meet this demand."

Saturday's launch in Market Cross Shopping Centre will be marked with opening day offers, giveaways and goody bags.

Mr Fitzgerald said Kilkenny was well known for its entertainment offering, with regular music and comedy festivals, and great live music venues.

"Golden Discs look forward to becoming an integral part of this thriving music scene," he said.
