Six cars were broken into in the Rosehill area of the city in the early hours of Monday morning.
Cash, clothes and prescribed medication were among the items stolen.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area at the time to contact them.
Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Peter McConnon warned people to lock their vehicles and not to leave items on display.
Meanwhile year on year the number of car thefts in Kilkenny has dropped significantly.
To date this year there have been 86 reported theft from vehicles in the city and county compared to 114 for the same period last year.
According to the latest garda figures one in four cars parked in driveways were unlocked when they were broken into.
Further data reveals that one in three cars have had windows smashed and the property taken because the property was on view in the vehicle and that cash, laptops and mobile phones are the most targeted items. Power tools are a high targeted item in thefts from commercial vehicles.
Furthermore as the festive season commences gardaí are warning people to take care of their Christmas shopping and to never leave it unattended, especially in a car and to always park in well-lit areas.
