Get down to Kilkenny Art Gallery for all your Christmas presents

In what has become an annual Yuletide tradition in the Marble City, the county’s artists have once again come together to set up the Kilkenny Art Gallery Christmas exhibition.
This year it is once again located at 3 John’s Bridge, Kilkenny next door to Tynan’s Bridge House Bar at John’s Quay.
There is a very eclectic range of styles on show, ranging from the traditional to the thoroughly modern contemporary.
One of the chief organising artists Laurence O’Toole has observed that a very noticeable tradition of couples buying a piece of art as their mutual Christmas gift has evolved.
“Let’s face it,” " he said. “There are only so much electronics and trinkets and ‘stuff’ we think people want but there’s no doubt that owning a piece of art that you love greatly enhances your life.
Forget that old notion that you don’t have any more space. just rearrange things. If you’re lucky enough to be in a position to afford to buy the art you love it will make your life better.”
Among the work exhibiting are paintings by equine artist Janet Brabazon and equine bronzes Ani Mollereau, the award winning sculptor who created the impressive famine monument at McDonagh Junction as well as designing the trophy for the Dubai Derby.
With a variety of landscapes, still life, watercolours, oil paintings, sculpture and prints there is something to suit all tastes and budgets.
Other artists showing include Graham Carew, Jade Butler, Billy Moore, Carol Ann Waldron, Margaret Kent, Phyl Cleere, Eoghan O’Driscoll, Frances Walsh, Laurence O’Toole, Patrick Palmer, Brock Butler, Brian O’Loughlin, Mary Gaine, Pamela Silin-Palmer and Darlene Garr.
The exhibition runs from 10am to 6pm until December 23.
