Kilkenny confirmed its place as the Foodie National Destination over the bank holiday weekend that heralded in November, with the Savour Kilkenny Food Festival.

The city was thronged for a magical weekend of food and fun!

There was a development in a 30 year-old unsolved murder case when gardaí exhumed the body of Marie Tierney. Advanced scientific developments since the Kilkenny mother was killed in 1984 allowed officers to gather evidence that could be crucial in prosecuting her killer.

It was confirmed in November that the famous Walt Disney had Kilkenny roots - he was a direct descendant of a farmer from Freshford.

Auditions took place in Kilkenny for ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ at MacDOnagh Shopping Centre.

This was also the month Kilkenny, and Ireland, went to the polls and re-elected Michael D Higgins to a second term as President of Ireland.

Callan put on the glitz and celebrated the ‘Callan Oskars’ - reshooting classic movie scenes.

Minister John Paul Phelan launched the ‘Access for All’ strategy for Kilkenny to highlight the needs of people with disabilities in our community.

National hero Vicky Phelan was named Kilkenny Person of the Year at the annual awards ceremony.

The centenary of the ending of World War 1 was marked in events across Kilkenny.

250 taxi drivers signed up to a Taxi Text Alert scheme aimed at reducing crime and creating awareness of public safety.

There was excitement in Inistioge when a film crew came to town to film a Christmas TV commerical for Dunnes Stores.

Kilkenny woman Ann Mulrooney was named as the new director of the Science Gallery at Trinity College, Dublin.

A date of February 2019 was announced for the start of work on the city’s ‘Abbey Quarter.’
