A suicide awareness gathering will take place at St John's Church later this month.

The annual event aims to raise awareness around suicide to reach out to those affected by the loss of friends and family members.

Organiser, Cllr Joe Malone told the Kilkenny People that this was the sixth annual gathering and added that the reaction has been 'hugely supportive'.

"The reaction each year from the community is hugely supportive. It is a poignant gathering but it is also a time for reflection and we hope that it helps to promote positive mental health," he said.

This year two speakers, Tom Cantwell from Kilkenny City and Rory Connellan from Teac Tom will share their stories and music will be by Soulful Spirit and other local artists.

All proceeds will be donated to Teac Tom - a local suicide awareness charity which provides counselling and other services in the community.

The gathering will take place in St John's Church on January 12 at 3pm and all are welcome.
