Stop breaking our hearts, Minister Harris - Councillor Breda Gardner

A demonstration against the ongoing lack of 24/7 cardiac care in the South East is being organised for Saturday January 19 from The Glen, Waterford at 2.00 p.m, to travel down Bridge Street, The Quay and finishing at John Roberts Square. Campaign groups from across the region are coming together to protest, and organisers are calling on all citizens in the South East to once again  support  the campaign to deliver a comprehensive 24/7 cardiac care service at University Hospital Waterford.
Cllr Breda Gardner is a spokesperson for SEPAG and will be taking part in the march.
“It is an absolute scandal that the South East is still the poor relation in Ireland when it comes to cardiac care. Speaking as a former nurse with some 20 years experience of nursing, I believe that people have died – and will continue to die – because of the lack of appropriate cardiac care facilities in our region,” said the Kilkenny local government representative.
Cllr Gardner says that discrimination continues for those accessing cardiac health services in the South East region. “Dublin has some 21 Cath Labs, whilst our region has to make do with a single lab access and a 39 hrs per week service. That is
unacceptable. It’s about time Minister Harris, local TD’s, the Dept of Health, HSE and hospital managers got together and sorted out this outrage once and for all.”
The "South East Broken Hearts"  campaign is calling for the delivery of regional 24/7 cardiac care.
