Kilkenny court: Bail refused in firearms case and suspect remanded in custody

A man accused of brandishing two knives and threatening to kill a garda was remanded in custody for the service of a book of evidence.
Tomas Sacharazuk, 1 Newpark Close is accused of production of an article capable of inflicting serious injury and of making a threat to kill or cause serious harm to another at his home address on December 18 and 19.
Sergeant Alma Molloy told the court that gardaí were objecting to a bail application before the court due to the seriousness of the alleged offences.
Garda John Quirke outlined to the court how gardaí had attended the address on the dates in question where they met with the defendant who had two kitchen knives in his possession.
“The defendant confronted me and he had two large knives. Gardaí had to retreat from the property. The defendant ran at gardaí with the knives and he continued to threaten gardaí,” Garda Quirke told the court.
The Armed Response Unit was called to the scene.
The defendant was arrested and has been in custody since December 21.
Solicitor Chris Hogan told the court that his client accepts that they are serious charges before the court.
“The allegation emanates from a relationship which was in for the past ten years. My client has no convictions under the Domestic Violence Act. “
Sergeant Molloy said that the matters before the court related to ‘a very serious incident’ which allegedly involved the defendant threatening to stab the garda and which necessitated the Armed Response Unit to engage with the accused to bring the situation under control.
Judge Colin Daly refused the bail application and remanded the defendant in custody to appear in court on Tuesday.
A book of evidence was served on the defendant on Tuesday and the defendant was remanded in custody to appear before the next sitting of Kilkenny Circuit Court which commences on January 28.
