Public information sessions announced for Kilkenny's Tholsel new designs

The two-hour open sessions are taking place in the next few days

A number of physical changes to the structure are proposed in an effort to bring it up to modern fire safety and accessibility standards and bring in visitors

Two 'public information' sessions regarding the proposed renovation and redevelopment of City Hall (the Tholsel) on High Street have been announced for the coming days.

Kilkenny County Council wants to repurpose the building in an effort to bring in visitors, whilst also maintaining its civic function. A number of physical changes to the structure are proposed in an effort to bring it up to modern fire safety and accessibility standards.

Plans for the project are currently on public display as part of the public consultation process.

The information events are as follows: Saturday, January 26 from 2pm to 4pm; and Wednesday, January 30 from 7pm  to 9pm.

Details of the proposed development will be on display and members of the public will have the opportunity to tour the building. Members of the design team and staff from Kilkenny County Council will be available at both open days to answer queries.

Plans and particulars of the proposed development are currently available for inspection until Friday, February 15, at the following Kilkenny County Council offices:

Planning Dept., Kilkenny County Council, County Hall, John St., Kilkenny City
from 9am to 1pm & 2pm to 4pm Monday to Friday.

Kilkenny City Engineering Office, Kilkenny County Council, Town Hall, High Street, Kilkenny from 9am to 1pm & 2pm to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Carnegie Library, Johns Quay, Kilkenny from 10am to 8pm Tuesdays,  10am to 5pm Wednesday to Friday, and 10am to 1:30pm Saturdays (except Bank Holiday weekends).

Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the development will be carried out, may be made online at https://consult.kilkenny.ie/, in writing to the Planning Section, Kilkenny County Council, County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny or sent to the following e-mail address Tholselplanning@kilkennycoco.ie.

The latest time and date for receipt of submissions on the development is 5pm on Friday, March 1, 2019. Submissions should be clearly marked 'Tholsel Project – Planning Submission'.
