Clare magic for Tradfest Kilkenny with the Kilfenora Céilí Band

Kilkenny Tradfest committee member and chairperson of Kilkenny’s The Watergate Theatre, Joe Reidy is delighted that the amazing musicians and dancers from County Clare will tread the boards at our fabulous municipal facility on Friday, March 15.
According to Joe, the Kilfenora Céilí Band, singers and dancers are sure to get hearts racing and feet tapping at the Watergate Theatre on St. Patrick’s weekend.
“They have performed across the world and we are delighted to finally get them to perform this special concert in Kilkenny,” he said.
The world renowned Kilfenora Céilí Band, regarded by aficionados as the quintessential Irish céilí band, will be joined by acclaimed singers Edel Vaughan and Jerry Lynch also from Clare along with dancers Laura Minogue, (Co. Clare), and world champions Michael and Matthew Gardiner (Co Galway) to perform an uplifting, energetic and entertaining show this March bank holiday weekend.
Members of the band include leader John Lynch (banjo, mandolin), Claire Griffin (accordion), Tim Collins (concertina), Gary Shannon (flute, whistle), Anthony Quigney (flute, whistle, piano), AnneMarie McCormack (fiddle), Sinéad Heagney (fiddle/viola), Anne Rynne (fiddle), Eimear Howley (fiddle/banjo), Fintan McMahon (piano), Sean Griffin (drums), Brian O’Grady (double bass) and Sharon Howley (cello).
This legendary traditional group take their rich musical heritage into the future with a show that is expertly choreographed by boasting highly rhythmic traditional tunes, together with beautifully sung airs and witty repartee.
Bringing their music to new audiences is a constant quest for the Kilfenora Céilí Band who have performed at Glastonbury, New York’s prestigious Lincoln Center as well as tours around Ireland and Europe.
Through collaborations with a diverse range of song and dance artists from former Riverdance lead Michael Donnellan to singer/songwriters Don Stiffe and Mike Hanrahan, to experimentation with repertoire, this band are pioneering new and exciting performance contexts for the céilí band genre.

Last week, Tradfest Kilkenny announced that Altan are back as a headline act for 2019.
