"Outrageous" dumping on a north Kilkenny road
A north Kilkenny councillor has called for a full investigation by Kilkenny County Council and An Garda Siochána into "absolutely shameful" dumping on a rural road.
What looks like a mattress, armchair and other household items (pictured above) were discovered in a field gateway on Finnan Road, near Ballyragget, today (Monday). The
Chairman of the Castlecomer Municipal District area, Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick, described the dumping as "absolutely shameful" and "absolutely disgraceful."
"I want a full investigation by Kilkenny County Council and, indeed, An Garda Siochána if we can," Cllr Fitzpatrick said. "It's outrageous what's there, absolutely disgraceful." He has reported the discovery to the County Council's Environmental Section.
Saying the items dumped 'resemble a house clearance,' Cllr Fitzpatrick said he is aghast that someone would do that and dump this material at the side of the road.
This is just the latest incident of dumping in rural parts of Kilkenny. Last week we reported an incident of "disgusting" dumping in a stream in Graignamanagh. Cllr Peter Cleere called for bigger fines to be imposed for illegal dumping.
