Welcome for new lighting in Bennettsbridge - but path still needed

The bridge in Bennettsbridge

New public lighting along the Thomastown Road in Bennettsbridge has been welcomed, but a path along the road still needs to be extended.

Speaking at the meeting of Callan Thomastown Municipal District, Cllr Deirdre Cullen said the lighting will make a difference. However, she said, there needs to be a path put in place for the people who live past the end of the current path.

A lot of families walk along that busy road and the corner is dangerous.
“We desperately need to finish it because it is absolutely lethal,” she warned.
Area engineer, Declan Murphy, said the first thing to do is get the speed limit reduced, then they will be able to look at the footpath. It comes down to budgets, he said.
The speed limit is now out to public consultation.
