Construction of a pedestrian pathway linking two Kilkenny communities is underway.
“It’s brilliant to see the work on the path coming out of Stoneyford starting,” Cllr Deirdre Cullen said. She asked that the project be kept on the agenda as this is just phase one.
“I hope the footpath will go all the way to Ennisnag,” she said, adding that a lot of children in the Ennisnag area walk and cycle into Stoneyford regularly.
Area engineer, Declan Murphy, said they will get the work on the first 300 metres of path finished first then look at the final 700 metres to Ennisnag. He agreed to ‘keep it on the agenda’ and apply for any available funding.
Work is taking place with funding provided under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
A tree surgeon was contracted to remove trees along the path line and the main works have now commenced. This first phase of the work is to clear the route and begin the undergrounding of ducting for lighting.
Motorists are alerted that traffic management will be in place along the road during works.
