Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI) will launch the ETBI Patrons’ Framework on Ethos for Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board (KCETB) schools at an event tomorrow, Wednesday, 23rd November.
ETB schools are state, co-educational, multi-denominational schools underpinned by the core values of excellence in education, care, equality, community and respect. The ETBI Patrons’ Framework on Ethos, which was developed by ETBI and the Centre for Evaluation, Quality and Inspection at Dublin City University (DCU), will support all ETB schools in Kilkenny and Carlow living out their ethos. The Framework applies to the 27 Community National Schools and 252 Community Colleges under the patronage of ETBs.
KCETB is the patron of 13 post-primary schools across Kilkenny and Carlow. They are: Coláiste Pobail Osraí, Kilkenny city; Scoil Aireagail, Ballyhale; Kilkenny City Vocational School; Grennan College, Thomastown; Duiske College, Graiguenamanagh; Coláiste Cois Siúire, Mooncoin; Coláiste Mhuire, Johnstown; Abbey Community College, Ferrybank; Coláiste Eoin, Hacketstown; Borris Vocational School; Coláiste Aindriú, Bagenalstown; Tyndall College, Carlow and Gaelcholaiste Cheatharlach.
Professor Anne Looney, Executive Dean of Dublin City University’s Institute of Education will deliver the keynote speech at the event, and Carl O’Brien, Education Editor at the Irish Times, will moderate a panel discussion on the theme ‘Ethos in Action’, featuring staff, learners and parents across the ETB sector on the practical use of the Framework.
Speaking in advance of the launch event, KCETB Chief Executive Eileen Curtis said, “We welcome the launch of the ETBI Patrons’ Framework which will further enhance the work of our schools here in Kilkenny and Carlow and our colleague schools across the wider ETB network and ensure that we achieve the highest standards of education for all our learners in an inclusive environment.
“This framework recognises our shared values within the ETB sector and acknowledges the standards of good practice which our schools in Kilkenny and Carlow already embody. It will also provide us with an opportunity to reflect within our school community on areas where there is potential for improved or new practices.”
Conor Walsh has been appointed as ethos co-ordinator in Kilkenny and Carlow, and he will be supporting all our schools in the implementation and further development of the framework. Speaking about the impact of the Ethos Framework, he commented: “This Framework is the culmination of ten years of extensive national consultation, research and visionary policymaking. It articulates for the first time what it means to be an ETB school. Today is a historic day for the ETB school community.”
