The big freeze overnight in Kilkenny has brought frost and ice across the county with temperatures ranging from approximately -2⁰C to -4⁰ C. It is advised that motorists and pedestrians take care as road and pavement surfaces may remain icy until well into the morning.

Throughout today, Friday, temperatures will hover around the 2⁰C at best. Niall Dollard of www.kilkennyweather.com says the maximum temperature recorded overnight was  -1.7⁰ C at 2.17am and the minimum was -4.5 ⁰C at 8.59am.

Niall says: "Temperatures will struggle to rise today. The air minimum was -4.7° C and the grass min was down to -10.6° C. Our coldest this year so far."

The wind chill factor today is a biting  -4.4 ⁰ C so it will remain feeling raw and very cold.

Niall also  says the chilly temperatures will persist for the weekend saying it will be “ a bright but very cold day on Friday. Continuing the same over the weekend. Sunny by day but hard frosts by night. Next week will start cold also but there are signs that it will turn a lot milder by mid- week.”
