Kilkenny’s past and future were making the news in February.
Paving the way for future development, An Bord Pleanala approved plans by Kilkenny CBS to build a new secondary school on the outskirts of Kilkenny City.
The Board of Management of CBS Secondary School Kilkenny have been granted permission for the construction of a part three-storey, part two-storey 37-classroom school building.
Meanwhile, a team from the Department of Modern Irish at University College Cork, led by Professor Pádraig Ó Macháin, brought state-of-the art imagining equipment to study The Red Book of Ossory.
The Red Book of Ossory has a strong association with the infamous Richard Ledred, Bishop of Ossory from 1317 to about 1361 and is one of the most precious manuscripts in Dublin’s RCB Library.
The results from this analysis will feed vital data into an international research project on medieval inks in comparable manuscripts.
