Happy New Year to all our readers - wishing you all health and happiness in the year ahead.

Undoubtedly, 2022 has been challenging with the rising cost of living, the war in Ukraine and rising Covid cases — there can be a kind of lethargy to our lives with so much going on in the background.

Hopefully you and yours have enjoyed the festive period and are now turning your attention to the year ahead. January is an apt time to reflect on what has passed and more importantly to reflect on what you want to achieve in the year ahead.

Resolutions, even with the best of intentions, are often doomed to fail while developing and maintaining positive habits and setting realistic goals can be more attainable.

One of the greatest home truths that the challenges of the past few years have shown us is the importance of good health — mentally, emotionally and physically. Maybe this is a good place to start.

In January, when the mornings and evenings are dark, it is all too easy to slip into hibernation mode but some gentle exercise or engaging in actively improving your wellbeing is worthwhile.

We all benefit from acts of kindness and compassion so go easy on yourself and on those around you.

While Christmas can be a joyful occasion for many it can also be a pressure cooker simmering as people harbour all sorts of expectations. So take a deep breath, let go of what no longer serves you and focus on what matters to you in the year ahead.
At this time of year we also want to thank all our loyal readers and advertisers for their unwavering support.

Community is so important and we at the Kilkenny People are proud to deliver to you the best in local and national news all the year around. This is made possible by our readers and advertisers who back us every step of the way.

Here’s to a happy and healthy 2023.
