Councillor Maria Dollard (GP) has queried local authority officials over the perceived 'lack of new jobs' being created in the Abbey Quarter area of Kilkenny city.
The comments were made at this month's meeting of Kilkenny County Council following a presentation on progress at the Abbey Quarter site.
The councillor stated that that the work being undertaken at the site is 'world class' but 'the reality is that the people of Kilkenny expected lots of new jobs in the Abbey Quarter however my understanding is there aren't any new jobs down there'.
Jason Clerkin, CEO of Kilkenny Abbey Quarter Development Limited, subsequently fielded Cllr Dollard's query.
"In terms of jobs, Glanbia see their current position as hub to grow from and O’Neill-Foley say their premises gives them scope for future expansion," he said.
"SRA (Security Risk Advisors) came to Kilkenny because of Abbey Quarter," he added, "and we are currently in talks with IDA Ireland about the potential for new companies to enter the site."
