Kilkenny County Council have officially unveiled a prototype of the new heritage street name signage planned for the core area of Kilkenny City.
The signage was developed in consultation with the Conservation Department, Planning Department, elected members and the Irish Language Commissioner.
The traditional design of the signage was chosen as it is sensitive to the medieval city, featuring the ‘Celtic Gaelige’ font, and this will allow it to match seamlessly with existing heritage signage.
The new signage will replace the deteriorating maroon and white street signage and will aid legibility and wayfinding for both visitors and locals alike.
"The new street name signage is an important addition to the city, providing an updated and cohesive look to the core area," said the Mayor of Kilkenny, Cllr David Fitzgerald.
"We worked closely with a range of stakeholders to ensure that the design was sensitive to the city’s heritage and would aid visitors and locals in finding their way around."
Kilkenny County Council have thanked all those who contributed to the consultation and design process.
