A preliminary rendering of the building from the original plans submitted to Kilkenny County Council
The fate of a landmark new building planned for the Abbey Quarter in Kilkenny City now lies in the hands of An Bord Pleanála.
Permission for the development had been granted by Kilkenny County Council earlier this month however a subsequent appeal has been lodged against that decision to An Bord Pleanála.
The applicant, Kilkeny Abbey Quarter Development Partnership, is seeking permission for a new mixed-use building varying in height from four to five storeys (set back at top floor).
The building, according to the plans, is to comprise of three to four floors of office accommodation together with plant above ground-floor mixed-uses including reception, offices, retail and support space.
It is to be located behind the current Brewhouse building on the Abbey Quarter site.
An Bord Pleanála are expected to make a final decision on the plans by September 14, 2023.
