Kilkenny swan family safe and sound thanks to help from public after morning of adventure!

The swans taking a well-earned rest outside the cinema this morning - or maybe trying to catch an early show?

Earlier today, a video of a family of swans walking down Ballybough Street in Kilkenny City went viral.

It has emerged that the swans, two parents and six cygnets, were making their way down from the water at the Lakeside Estate to the River Nore.

A local resident, who assisted with traffic management for the swans as they travelled, got in touch with Kilkenny Live to explain more.

"I had to laugh seeing the story about the swans this morning because I was the one who was assisting them with traffic management all the way from my estate, Lakeside," they told us.

"Bud and Penny are the Mammy and Daddy swans' names... just FYI.

"I spotted them heading for the road out my bedroom window and so quickly went to follow them all the way down Ballybough Street, across the road to Barrack Street, where Pat Durkan from Bird Watch Kilkenny took over!"

The resident, taking a short break from impromptu traffic warden duties, managed to take a great photo of the birds chilling outside the cinema before the final leg of their journey, as seen above.

Bird Watch Kilkenny's Pat Durkan then helped transport the swans the rest of the way down to Green's Bridge, where they were released safely onto the river.
