Cars 'soaking' people with flood water in Kilkenny and driving water into businesses

Cllr Maria Dollard has asked local drivers 'to be aware' of pedestrians on the streets during periods of heavy rainfall, such as what Kilkenny has experienced in recent days.

"Cars are ploughing through flooded streets, soaking elderly people and people with buggies and children," she told elected members at this month's full meeting of Kilkenny County Council.

Director of Services at Kilkenny County Council, Tim Butler, asked local motorists 'not to drive through areas where there are floods on the road'.

"This is driving water through business premises," he said.

"We do suspect that we will have further rainfall and free sandbags have been made available for those who need them. If anybody needs them they can make their way to the Gaol Road depot to collect."
