Frustration as Kilkenny residents say they are left without water with no warning, and late night works

Works are ongoing on the stretch of road in Kilkenny City

Kilkenny

Residents were hampered in their access to homes and water is out for hours on the Castlecomer Road

Local residents in the Castlecomer Road area of Kilkenny City are venting their frustrations over works that left them without water for hours last night - and they say no prior notice was given.

Homes and premises catering to hundreds of people on the Castlecomer Road, including Newpark Hotel and Kilkenny College, were among those affected. Several residents said it was very challenging to gain access and egress from houses, and that they received no letters, and saw no mention on websites or social media notices of the disruption.

Kilkenny County Council did advise yesterday that Shareridge Civil Engineering Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann would have traffic management including a stop-go on the Castlecomer Road each day until Friday, June 7 from 9.30am to 4.30pm aswell as nightwork on Wednesday, June 5 from 8pm to midnight. However, at least one resident said that the work went on into the early hours and was very disruptive to people trying to sleep.

Uisce Eireann has been contacted for comment.
