St Canice's hold bicentenary celebrations - Kilkenny Live

It was a big weekend for the parish as the bicentenary of St Canice’s Church was celebrated. The church was founded by Fr James Gorman and Fr John Gorman in 1824, with work completed in 1839.

Events began with a concert on Friday night which showcased a remarkable array of talent, including The Carrigans, Billy and Caoimhe, who were joined by Seathrun Ó Casaide; the Unity Singers, Male Voice Sospiro, Ukrainian choir and St Canice’s and the young musicians from CBS and St Canice’s Primary School were great.

On Saturday night the Mass of Thanksgiving was concelebrated by many priests from the diocese, followed by refreshments and a get-together in the Neighbourhood Hall.

On Sunday the Family Mass was attended by the children who received their First Holy Communion last month and their parents. Thanks went to all who attended the events, to those who took part in both the Masses and concert and the Bicentenary Committee for all their hard work.
