Members of Kilkenny City Fire Brigade hosted a very special visit to the station from Kilkenny Youthreach recently as young people in the centre had the opportunity to sample a day in the life of a local firefighter.
Kilkenny Youthreach is a full-time second chance education programme for early school leavers aged between 15 and 20 offering young people an opportunity to complete their Leaving Certificate as well as develop social and personal skills outside the school sitting.
Students took part in an informative safety talk and learned about the history of firefighting in Kilkenny City and County, went on a tour of the fire station and had an opportunity to be up close and personal with the station's equipment.

Firefighters present also gave an insight into the career growth opportunities available by becoming firefighter and students got to sample how firefighters respond to road traffic collisions and other emergency situations.
There was a number of highlights from the visit including, the discussion and interaction shared between the firefighters and the students and the demonstrations which were very well received on the day.
