Works are progressing on the construction of the replacement boardwalk at the Lacken in Kilkenny City.
This new bespoke piece of amenity infrastructure will be made using 100% recycled plastic components.
Phase One - Extends from Lacken (city side) to the link with the path to the Ring Road.
Phase Two - Extends from the Ring Road link to the southern end of the boardwalk.
The project is expected to be completed next month.
The completed project will see the replacement of the existing 1.2m wide timber boardwalk with a c.3.6m wide boardwalk made from recycled composite materials.
Funding for this project was secured last year under Measure 3 of Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).
"It will be an fantastic addition to St John's Parish but will benefit the whole of Kilkenny," Independent Councillor, Eugene McGuinness commented.

"As the only councillor working and living in St. John’s Parish I have asked that the Mayor might do the honours at the official opening, joined I hope by many of the sitting councillor's and as many people from Kilkenny as possible," he added.
"I have also asked that the council do a general cleanup along the riverbank on the oldest part of the route so that people can fully appreciate the beauty of this riverside walk," Cllr McGuinness concluded.
