"More taxpayers money flushed down the toilet" - Kilkenny councillor on recent road works

Kilkenny councillors have raised concerns over recent works at the Bennettsbridge Road Roundabout

"More taxpayers money flushed down the toilet" - Kilkenny councillor on recent road works

Independent councillor, Eugene McGuinness has criticised the recent works by Transport Infrastructure Ireland with additional lanes being introduced on the Ring Road at the Bennettsbridge Road Roundabout.

"These works have proven to be a complete disaster causing major disruption with traffic backing back up the Ring Road at busy times of the day," Cllr McGuinness said.

"The two lane into one lane system is particularly problematic and is an accident waiting to happen. I have asked Kilkenny County Council to contact Transport Infrastructure Ireland and ask them to correct this expensive disaster in hopefully less time than it took them to create the problem in the first place," he continued.

"More taxpayers money flushed down the toilet," Mr McGuinness concluded.

The recent traffic chaos in the area continues a somewhat negative trend for local road users.

Earlier this year, road users, pedestrians and cyclists shared their concerns with Kilkenny Live following the perceived lack of progress on the N10 Ring Road at Ossory Bridge

A total of €250,000 was granted to widen the footpaths at Ossory Bridge, however, during these works an issue arose with regard to the bridge support structure and works were halted and took some time to re-commence.

Reacting to the latest issue on the Ring Road, Mayor Andrew McGuinness called for a meeting with Transport Infrastructure Ireland on the matter describing the measures as 'disgraceful', adding, "the Great Wall of China would have been built quicker."
