An accident on Kennyswell Road earlier this year
Fresh signage is set to be erected on the Kennyswell Road in Kilkenny City as ongoing efforts continue to be made to end long-term frustration over traffic congestion and Heavy Good Vehicles (HGV) passing through the area.
The county council is also understood to be considering limiting parking to residents only.
The well-known city street links the highly populated St Canice’s Parish of the city to the Ballycallan Road and Kilcreene Hospital and has been under the microscope for over a decade.

In late 2022, HGV traffic on the road was made one-way only, easing but not eradicating traffic chaos. Meanwhile, a car accident in August, on the road in which a car was turned over, again brought into focus the need for safety measures in the area.

Speaking at the latest sitting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District, Mayor Andrew McGuinness commented, “Frustration amongst us is ongoing for a considerable length of time.”
