Local Fianna Fáil councillor, Joe Malone has told drivers to 'cop on' as city council members continue to express fears over drivers using excessive speed in local housing estates and surrounding routes.
The comments follow a motion by party colleague, Cllr John Coonan, who has called for traffic calming measures be put in place at Sycamore Drive, Woodbine Avenue and Fr Hayden Road in Kilkenny City, as a 'matter of priority'.
Cllr Coonan claimed the measures were needed urgently, with speeding vehicles in the area becoming 'very noticeable' according to the local representative.

The motion, proposed at Friday's sitting of the Kilkenny Municipal District, was seconded by Fianna Fáil's Joe Malone who stated: "It's up to people themselves on the roads to cop on."
Cllr Malone also raised concerns over wheelchair parking spots in the area being used for 'other reasons'.
Mr Malone, who told Kilkenny Live last year this will be his last term as a councillor, in addition, commented that a number of local footpaths needed to be upgraded.
