Kilkenny TD, John McGuinness
Fianna Fáil TD, John McGuinness has told the Dáil 'disruptors in the system are necessary' and that has been the 'cornerstone' of his 'public life'.
The Kilkenny TD secured the Leas Ceann Comhairle position with 96 votes in a secret ballot of TDs on Wednesday.
Before his election, Mr McGuinness said the “status quo has to be challenged at all times” as he told deputies that reform is one of his focuses in public life.
“I believe disruptors in the system are necessary because we cannot become complacent in the work we do on behalf of the people who elect us.
“That, and reform, has been the cornerstone of my contribution to public life, always with an emphasis on public service.”
Mr McGuinness missed out on the Ceann Comhairle position in December as Independent TD Verona Murphy was elected.
