Kilkenny housing estate becoming  an 'illegal dumping ground'

A local councillor has called on Kilkenny County Council to take action at a derelict site at Newpark Close in Kilkenny City.

In a motion set to be raised at April's sitting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District, Cllr Eugene McGuinness believes the site is a 'a major health and safety issue'.

Cllr McGuinness has requested the local authority, "lay out clearly what proposals are under consideration for the development of the derelict site at Newpark Close which is currently being used as an illegal dumping ground constituting a major health and safety issue in the area.

Over a decade ago, Kilkenny Live reported on the removal of a number of derelict buildings at Newpark Close following a grant of €350,000. The scheme saw replacement of eight vacant houses at Newpark Close with a newly created recreational/green space.

The motion is set to be discussed at council level on Friday, April 11.
