Kilkenny County Council has announced a temporary bathing prohibition is in place at The Weir, Bleach Road and at Bishops Meadows on the outskirts of the city.
The decision follows a recommendation by Public Health Officials, as a result of failed water quality tests which show high levels of bacteria present in both locations.
Kilkenny County Council is continually carrying out further tests and investigating the cause of these higher than normal levels.

"Once we have identified the issue and tests have come back clear, we will reopen the Bathing Areas," a council spokesperson said.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused," they added.
