Former Minister for Education, Norma Foley confirmed last year that the local school would be one of three Kilkenny schools to receive funding as part of 'Project Nore' with a new school building that will cater for 1,000 students and include special classes for students with additional needs.
Ahead of Wednesday's opening, Kilkenny gardaí posted an important notice to social media.
"It is essential that people comply with the prohibitions intended to stop vehicular access to the new school from the Dunningstown Road," they said.
"Unfortunately FCNs will be issued to motorists who flout these regulatory signs as other road users will have their safety compromised."
