Local Green Party representative, Cllr Maria Dollard has called on Kilkenny County Council to take steps to improve the public lighting at the Kilkenny Skatepark and surrounding area.

In a motion penned ahead of next Friday's meeting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District, Cllr Dollard said: "Given its new importance, connecting the Linear Park and the Riverside Park. These improvements should specifically consider the adequacy of lighting at the Skatepark to include assessment of current lighting, lighting under the bridge and lighting for the public on approach.

"This assessment should include consultation with the Biodiversity Officer bearing in mind the sensitivity of the site beside the River Nore. Consultation should also include An Garda Síochana regarding the use of CCTV cameras to improve public safety."

The matter will be discussed at next week's Kilkenny City Municipal District gathering in County Hall.
