Over the weekend, gardaí in Kilkenny joined other police services from around the world to honour INTERPOL’s International Day of Remembrance for Fallen Police Officers 2026.
Many garda buildings as well as other landmarks around the globe were illuminated in blue.
Flags at garda buildings also flew at half-mast, in what a garda spokesperson described as a 'fitting tribute to the 90 members of An Garda Síochána who lost their lives in the line of duty'.

"On Friday, at Europol Headquarters, a ceremony also took place to remember fallen officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice between March 7 2025 and March 5 2026," the spokesperson added.

"Our colleague Garda Kevin Flatley who died in May last year was recognised and remembered."
