Kilkenny County Council have confirmed funding has been secured from the National Transport Authority (NTA) for the construction of a number of new bus shelters in the city as part of the local authority’s 'Bus Stop Enhancement Programme' for 2026.
City-based councillors have been vocal advocates of the service, six years on from the introduction of the successful city bus operation.
Latest figures show 47% of the local population use the KK2 service, while 53% avail of KK1.

As part of the programme, bus shelters for inbound/outbound bus stops will be erected at the Butts' Green and Ayrfield/Granges Road.
Meanwhile, new bus shelters on the Granges Road (outbound) along with the College Road, Bohernatounish Road and Dublin Road at Middleknock (inbound) have all been given the green light.
The local authority receives €500,000 per year in funding to implement the scheme, with further locations expected to be identified in 2027.
